Dothan man’s legs severed by moving train, coroner says | WDHN

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A man was found dead on the train tracks on North Range Street in Dothan Tuesday night.

Dothan Police identified the victim as 64-year-old Scottie Earl Jones.

According to Dothan police, officers found Jones on the train tracks along North Range Street near the East Main overpass after receiving a tip that a man was down on the tracks.

Jones, who was discovered with his legs cut off, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police report that Jones was caught by the train while trying to get under the cars to get to the other side while the train was moving.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd told WDHN that Jones also suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

The investigation is ongoing and officers are awaiting the results of a toxicology report.
