A Grand Junction Police Department volunteer has been awarded the Carol Hacker Award for Outstanding Victim Advocate in the Volunteer Sector by the Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance (COVA).

Victim services volunteer Laurel Walters received this prestigious award at the COVA Annual Conference. recognizes individuals who have made a significant impact in the lives of crime victims through their volunteer efforts.

COVA, a statewide nonprofit organization, fosters a collaborative environment where crime victims can heal and restore balance in their lives. The Carol Hacker Award is given annually to honor a volunteer who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and service in victim advocacy.

Walters has been a member of the Grand Junction Police Department’s Victim Services Program for the past four years. During this time, she volunteered over 3,000 hours, providing crucial support to victims in need.

“Her compassionate and tireless work has made a profound difference in the lives of many, and her efforts have significantly contributed to the Grand Junction Police Department’s mission of providing emotional support and resources to those affected by crime,” a statement said. press release.
