2 adults, 16-year-old charged with carjacking in Sumter

SUMTER, SC (WIS) – According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), a carjacking occurred on the evening of August 30th on Peach Orchard Road.

Deputies were dispatched to the location in reference to an individual who forced someone out of their car at gunpoint and stole it.

All county and city law enforcement officers were described in the car, and the vehicle was spotted the next day by Sumter Police Department officers.

Deputies said police initiated a pursuit, however SCSO took over the pursuit at 10:36 p.m.

The car, driven by the 16-year-old, according to deputies, eventually stopped and the teenager was taken into custody.

SCSO said a subsequent investigation implicated Jahmell Dashawn Simon-Williams, 27, and the teenagers’ mother, Cierra Antionette Christian, 37.

According to deputies, Christian was trying to help the teenager before they were apprehended.

Christian was arrested on October 4 and charged with accessory after the fact to a felony. Simon-Williams on October 8 and charged with the following:

  • Abduction
  • Car theft
  • Contributing to the delinquency of a minor
  • Criminal conspiracy
  • Possession of a weapon during a violent crime
  • Person over 18 who uses minor to commit violent crime

They were taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.

Simon-Williams’ link has been declined. Christian was released on a $20,000 bond.

The teenager, who was charged with kidnapping, carjacking and criminal conspiracy, was arraigned in Family Court, according to deputies.
