It is preparing to celebrate 10 years of achievements in health professions education
The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, has reiterated its commitment to positively impact society through teaching, research and community service activities.

He said as Nigeria’s first specialized university of medical and health sciences, it is set to celebrate its 10 years of existence with a view to uncover exploits in health profession education in the coming weeks.

The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Isaac Oluyi, who disclosed that the activities would hold from December 4-14, 2024, said the university with its range of innovative programs has been a shining example in the last 10 years.

He said: “The university has produced three sets of doctors in less than 10 years of its existence, a remarkable feat in the history of medical science education in Nigeria. He also helped introduce over 10 new programs into the Nigerian university curriculum in collaboration with the National Universities Commission (NUC). These and many other punches will be on display during the university’s 10th anniversary.”

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, while unveiling the programs scheduled for the anniversary, said: “We have opened a new vista in health professions education and we are convinced that our impacts in the last 10 years must not only be celebrated, but documented for posterity.

“To this end, the university will enlighten and educate the public about the functioning of the institution, showcase its achievements and provide space for members of the fourth estate of the realm to ask questions in line with the Transparency, Efficiency and Accountability (TEA) mantra the university.

On his part, the chairman of the anniversary committee, Prof. Ogundahunsi, stressed that the anniversary will further impact society as it celebrates 10 years of the university.

Ogundahunsi listed the activities scheduled for the anniversary which include advocacy and stakeholder engagement, U-STEM competition for secondary schools, community health promotion, research and innovation programme, anniversary lecture, project commissioning, convocation, student public speaking competition public, and giving awards to eminent personalities in the society, among others.
