This was the three-time BJP MP’s first visit to his home district after being sworn in as the house bearer. He thanked the High Command of the party and the legislators, including those from the opposition parties, for electing him unanimously.

Addressing reporters, he said that as speaker, he would ensure proper conduct of the house so that public issues raised by members would reach the government at the earliest for redressal. “There are plans to organize an orientation camp and workshop for the new members of the house to make them understand the legislative work. I have asked all members to take an interest in legislative work and to do research on all issues. Besides, I think there should be a positive debate on the issues raised so that there is a positive outcome on public issues,” he added.

According to the figures, there are 40 first-time MLAs, a maximum of 23 from BJP, 13 from Congress, two representing INLD and two independents. Four of the BJP MLAs including Shruti Choudhry, Arti Rao, Gaurav Gautam and Arvind Sharma were elevated as ministers in the government.

Kalyan will chair a meeting of all district officials at Karnal Mini Secretariat on Monday.
