Lucknow News: 32-year-old Mohit Pandey is said to have died under suspicious circumstances at Chinhat police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, raising serious allegations by his family against the local police. According to Mohit’s family, he sustained serious injuries while at the police station, which they claim led to his death. The incident sparked protests, with protesters chanting slogans demanding strict action against the police personnel responsible.

In response to the rising tensions, the police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by Mohit’s mother, Tapeshwari Devi. The family accused the police of inflicting injuries on Mohit, which they allege led to his death while in custody.

The complaint names Chinhat Police Station House Officer (SHO) Ashwani Chaturvedi, among others, as responsible. Based on this, an FIR under Sections NBS 2023 103(1) and NBS 2023 61(2) was lodged against Ashwani Chaturvedi and other unknown persons.

Ramdesh Pandey, Mohit’s uncle, leveled serious allegations against the police, saying, “This incident is related to Deva Road where an altercation took place and Mohit was detained under Section 151. Someone with political influence ordered his beating brutal. After his death. , we have been informed, but we still do not know the whereabouts of his other brother, who is believed to be in court.”

ADCP Pankaj Singh, who reached the spot, said the investigation is on and will reveal the details of the incident. “After he was brought to the hospital, he was found dead. More information is pending as the investigation continues. The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Mohit,” Singh said.

According to the police, Mohit’s mother Tapeshwari Devi claimed that on the evening of October 25, her son got into a minor altercation with his neighbor Adesh Kumar, Indian Express reported. Police took Mohit to Chinhat police station following a complaint. Later, Mohit’s elder brother Shobha Ram went to the Chinhat police station to inquire about him and was also detained on the grounds that he was allegedly intoxicated.

The mother claimed that no action was taken against Adesh then, given the influence of his uncle, who is a political leader. The two brothers were put in separate rooms and then the police brought Adesh to the station a few hours later, she claimed. Tapeshwari Devi alleged that the police brutally attacked Mohit, leading to his death. Then they would transport him to the hospital to hide the problem.
