A New Hope Center held the ‘Smashing Domestic Violence’ fundraiser.

OWEGO (WBNG) — A New Hope Center held a fundraiser at the Elk’s Lodge to support victims of domestic violence.

Dedicated to “Smashing Domestic Violence”, A New Hope Center organized a Super Smash Bros themed tour to help raise awareness of these issues.

The event started on Sunday at 1 p.m. Participants had to pre-register and pay a $10 donation, which was reduced to $5 if they brought a game console to share. The participants could enjoy and play various games together.

Based in Tioga County, A New Hope Center serves victims of all crimes, with most of its resources used to help those who have experienced some variation of domestic or sexual abuse.

“A New Hope Center is a comprehensive crime victim services program based in Tioga County,” said A New Hope Center Executive Director Fran Bialy. “So we’re doing this ‘Smash(ing) Domestic Violence’ event both to raise awareness about domestic violence and to end domestic violence. When we are aware of these types of problems, then we can be more proactive in preventing these types of problems.”
