Damage a possible factor in the accident that caused 2 deaths

KANSAS CITY — Two people died in a crash just before 4 a.m. Sunday in Kansas City.

A Dodge Hornet was heading south on Jackson Avenue in Kansas City at a high rate of speed, according to KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez. The driver of the Dodge failed to stop for a red traffic light on Truman Road.

The Dodge struck the left side of an eastbound Ford Fusion that was going through a green light. The impact forced the Ford south, where it hit a wooden utility pole. The Dodge continued southeast after the crash and struck the west wall of the business, Cash America Pawn, at 4205 Truman Road.

The front passenger of the Dodge and the driver of the Ford were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and two additional passengers of the Dodge were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Impairment is under investigation for the driver of the Dodge, according to Gonzalez
