National Law Enforcement Group Names Two Sheriff’s Deputies as Officers of the Month – Macomb Daily

Two Macomb County sheriff’s deputies have been honored for their role in a dramatic rescue effort involving a driver undergoing a medical emergency.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) announced that Deputies Nicole Miron and Anthony Gross have been named the organization’s Officers of the Month for September 2024.

The pair were singled out for their actions when they performed an act of rescue along a busy stretch of Gratiot Avenue to help a motorist experiencing a medical emergency.

“These officers are heroes, thinking quickly to help someone in need and risking their own safety to display an act of bravery that we are proud to recognize,” said William Alexander, CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial . .

The Washington, DC-based organization honors the 23,785 U.S. law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

On Sept. 12, Miron and Gross were on patrol when they received reports that a GMC Sierra truck was driving erratically on Gratiot and the driver appeared to be in a daze.

Gross was able to pull his cruiser alongside the other driver, while Miron climbed out of the cruiser into the other driver’s vehicle through the open driver’s side window, bringing the vehicle to a safe stop.

Deputies then received medical attention for the 63-year-old driver.

Cameras from the deputies’ patrol vehicle as well as traffic surveillance cameras captured the daring incident on video.

The Officer of the Month Awards Program is sponsored by the Police Unity Tour and recognizes federal, state and local officers who are distinguished by exemplary law enforcement service and devotion to duty.
