Cracking down on the Airbnb party

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Airbnb is developing “anti-party measures” to reduce the risk of unauthorized events this Halloween season.

Airbnb reports that a new anti-party systems will be implemented this Halloween weekend. This system uses machine learning to block certain 1 and 2 night bookings for whole house rentals in the US and Canada.

The system will identify high-risk bookings and help Airbnb enforce its no-party policy.

“The vast majority of Airbnb guests are responsible travelers and problems are rare. We want to support our hosts and local communities by trying to further reduce the risk of disruptive parties, and we believe these measures will help us do just that,” said Tara Bunch, Global Head of Operations at Airbnb.

Airbnb used a similar system last year to block about 37,000 potential renters from booking listings in the US

About 650 people in Michigan were discouraged from booking whole house rentals last Halloween as a result of the system.
