Weld County CIRT investigates after officer shoots man twice in response to shots fired – Greeley Tribune

The Weld County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating a shooting after a Weld County Sheriff’s deputy shot a man twice after the man fired a pair of shots while deputies were on the scene.

The man was taken to a hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds and is expected to survive, according to a news release from the Critical Incident Response Team.

Around 12:15 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a disturbance in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue Lane in unincorporated Weld County, east of Greeley.

When they arrived, deputies encountered a man armed with a gun, who police say discharged the weapon twice while deputies were on scene. The release did not indicate if the shots fired by the man were directed at deputies.

The Critical Incident Response Team consists of members of law enforcement agencies in the local judicial district who investigate incidents in which an officer uses or attempts to use deadly force while on duty. The team presents the finding to the district attorney, who decides whether to clear the officer of charges or send the shooting to a grand jury.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Michael Shea 970-350-9676 or [email protected]
