Electronics repair website iFixit this weekend shared a iPad mini 7 disassembly videoand adds mystery to the “jelly scroll” device enhancements.

iPad mini 7 has red and blue
“Jelly scrolling” refers to screen tearing, which can cause text or images on one side of the screen to appear tilted down due to mismatched refresh rates. It can make one side of the display look like it’s responding faster than the other side, resulting in a visual blur that’s hard to ignore once noticed. Some customers noticed the effect on the iPad mini 6 when the device was used in portrait orientation, which led to complaints over the past three years, but not everyone noticed or was bothered by the effect.

Despite the fact that an Apple spokesperson once claimed that “jelly scrolling” it was “normal” behavior. for iPads with LCD screens, it seems that the company still felt inclined to reduce the effect on the iPad mini 7. Many reviewers said the “jelly scroll” was less noticeable or not at all visible on the latest iPad mini, and it appears that Apple has vaguely told some of these reviewers that made display-related changes to address the issue.

It has been speculated that Apple may have rotated the display controller inside the iPad mini 7 to make the “jelly scroll” less noticeable in portrait orientation, but interestingly, iFixit said the position of the display controller hasn’t changed in comparison with the iPad mini 6. The site concluded that Apple did some unknown “cheating” to reduce the “jelly scroll”, so it’s still unclear what Apple did to mitigate the problem.

The teardown video also revealed that the Apple logo on the back of the iPad mini 7 can be removed, but otherwise the internal design of the device is similar to the iPad mini 6.

Apple launched the iPad mini 7 last week with key features including the A17 Pro chip, Apple Intelligence support, Apple Pencil Pro support, and more.
