A Halloween shooting in Springfield Township leaves 1 dead and 1 seriously injured

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) – A shooting at a Halloween party in Springfield Township left one dead and one seriously injured Sunday morning.

According to a Springfield Township Police Department Facebook post, officers responded to reports of a shooting at a Halloween party in the 1400 block of Canton Road around 12:15 p.m.

When they arrived, officers found a man with an apparent gunshot wound and another man with gunshot wounds, according to Springfield Township police.

After the Springfield Township Fire Department provided medical assistance, both men were taken to the hospital.

“We know the injuries were head injuries, we don’t know how they actually occurred that’s part of the investigation,” Chief Simone said.

Police said one victim died in hospital and the other man remains hospitalized and receiving treatment for injuries from the attack.

“We found the shooting victim downstairs in the house,” Chief Simone said. “It appears at this point he was shot in the abdomen.”

The names of the victims are currently being withheld pending notification of family members.

“We had difficulty gathering witness statements from people who were there but who may have left before the officers had a chance to talk to them,” Chief Simone said.

Springfield Township Police said this incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Sergeant Troyer at 330-734-4106.

Police told 19 News they responded to this residence approximately six times for domestic issues, noise complaints and a nuisance complaint.

Police also told 19 News that officers were called to the residence for last year’s Halloween party.
