Steelers QB Justin Fields unexpectedly added to the injury report

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Justin Fields was unexpectedly added to the team’s injury report on Sunday with a hamstring injury. Fields was a full participant in practice all week, but the team’s spokesperson Burt Lauten announced On Sunday, Fields was added to the team’s injury report and is considered questionable to play on Monday Night Football against the New York Giants.

The Steelers generally hold a team presentation the day before the game. The exact circumstances of Fields’ injury have not been reported.

Russell Wilson is expected to make his second straight start at quarterback for the Steelers after he himself finally returned last week from a preseason calf injury. Fields dressed as Wilson’s backup but did not play in the Steelers’ win over the New York Jets last Sunday. If Fields is unable to suit up, Kyle Allen will serve as the team’s backup quarterback. Allen made an appearance while Wilson was out, playing two snaps while Fields was checked for a concussion in the team’s Week 5 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The Steelers do not have a quarterback, either on their active roster or on their practice squad.

In six games as the Steelers’ starter, Fields completed 106 of 160 passes (66.3%) for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, one interception and a 93.9 passer rating. He also rushed 55 times for 231 yards and five scores. He is tied for seventh in the NFL in rushing touchdowns and is first among running backs.
