A pet has died in an accidental fire in Peoria

PEORIA (25 News now) – A pet did not make it out alive after an accidental house fire late Saturday night.

The Peoria Fire Department responded to the 3000 block of West Ann on Peoria’s south side around 11:40 p.m. Saturday.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a single story house with heavy smoke and fire coming from the house.

Crews proceeded to extinguish the structure and initiated a search for any occupants.

A resident and two pets got out of the home before fire crews got there, but a dog couldn’t get out and died as a result.

Firefighters were on the scene for two hours and the Red Cross was called to assist the resident with housing.

No other injuries were reported and the cause was ruled accidental.

A further investigation is underway and the damage is estimated at $65,000.
