According to the arrest affidavit, Saunders County Sheriff’s Office deputies found numerous weaponsincluding firearms, ammunition, suppressors, knives and brass knuckles in a hidden room in the basement of Herring’s home in Fremont.

Hering was not allowed to have weapons because of a previous felony assault conviction.

First Alert 6 confirmed Friday that Herring was prominent in a recent political ad for Republican Sen. Deb Fischer of Nebraska’s re-election campaign. Senator Fischer defeated independent challenger Dan Osborne by a narrow margin.

First Alert 6 reached out to Sen. Fischer’s camp for a statement in response to Herring’s arrest — which happened after the election — but has yet to hear back.
