Child dies from accidental gunshot wounds earlier this year

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The Baton Rouge Police Department has confirmed the death of a child who accidentally shot himself several months ago.

Police said 5-year-old Joshua Kelly Jr. died Thursday, Nov. 21, while in the hospital from injuries sustained during a March 20 shooting incident.

Kelly’s mother, Arieana Scott, 22, was arrested after the shooting on multiple charges, including improper supervision of a minor by a parent.

The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested the mother of a 4-year-old boy after he shot himself Wednesday morning.

Police said he was playing with a modified gun when he suffered the self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was only 4 years old then.

The shooting happened just before 9:30 a.m. on Scenic Highway at 69th Avenue in Baton Rouge.

This is an ongoing investigation.
