Couple charged in a series of burglaries at a construction site in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A couple accused of stealing from a series of construction sites in Lincoln are facing charges in Lancaster County.

On October 10th, the Lincoln Police Department launched an investigation into several burglaries in construction throughout the city. LPD received a tip that Ricardo Martinez, 26, was somehow involved in the burglaries and was seen leaving and returning with tools, police wrote.

After further investigation, LPD identified Martinez and his girlfriend, 33-year-old Keilyn Acosta, as suspects.

Court documents allege that Martinez and Acosta pawned a large amount of stolen tools on several different occasions that repeatedly coincided with burglaries, thefts or similar crimes. Police wrote that some of the seized tools had markings on them indicating their owners.

Officers contacted Martinez at the Lancaster County Jail because he was already booked for an unrelated incident, documents show. Acosta was cited and taken to jail Wednesday.

Martinez was charged with two counts of burglary and his bond was set at 10 percent of $50,000. He has a hearing scheduled for December 11.

Acosta was charged with one count of theft. Her bond was set at 10 percent of $5,000 and she will be back in court on Dec. 30.
