Taylor Schabusiness files notice of appeal of manslaughter conviction

GREEN BAY — A Green Bay woman sentenced in 2023 for killing and dismembering her friend filed an appeal.

Taylor Schabusiness, 27, was found guilty by a jury in 2023 of three counts of first-degree murder, mutilation of a corpse and third-degree sexual assault in the 2022 death of Shad Thyrion, of Green Bay. In September 2023, Brown County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Walsh sentenced Schabusiness to life in prison without parole.

Schabusiness pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity, but the trial jury ruled that she was not suffering from mental disease or defect when she killed Thyrion. Schabusiness filed an appeal of the conviction Friday, court records show.

The appeal was filed in the 3rd District of the State Court of Appeals. Schabusiness’s attorney, Gregory Petit, will file a motion to dismiss with the court, the appeal states.

A meritless report is filed when an attorney determines that a direct appeal would be “frivolous and without any arguable merit” and presents any potential arguments to support the appeal and the reasons why each issue is without merit. The report will be submitted to the court by March 24, 2025.
