What is at stake in Maharashtra and Jharkhand?

Political narratives were constructed in the election campaign by both the ruling and opposition camps in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

While the BJP tried to pitch its development schemes in Maharashtra along with the slogan ‘Ek Hai Toh Safe Hai’ aimed at uniting the Hindu vote, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi in the state tried to corner the Mahayuti government over corruption, division of Shiv. Sena and NCP.

Following a disappointing show for the BJP-led Mahayuti in the Lok Sabha elections, the alliance would have hoped to bounce back with a win in the state. The Shiv Sena and the NCP, both of which have split into two factions in the last five years, will also be under the litmus test of their acceptance among the people after breaking away from their initial beginnings.

The opposition BJP in Jharkhand reiterated its ‘Batenge Toh Katenge’ slogan in Jharkhand, while vowing to rid the state of infiltration issues, while the ruling Hemant Soren government attacked the BJP and hopes to retain power.

As the counting of votes begins at 8 am, the narratives set by the Opposition will also be put to the test if they have found takers among the voters.
