DURBAN – Three attackers were shot and killed in the latest exchange of fire with KwaZulu-Natal Mariannhill Police.

Police were looking for information on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, about a Hyundai H-1 delivery van hijacked a day earlier.

Suspected hijackers killed in shootout

Crime intelligence officers tracked him to the Klaarwater hostel where the suspects transferred the items to a bakkie.

They drove off and once law enforcement ordered them to stop, a high-speed chase ensued along Intake Road.

“The driver ignored instructions, sped off and the police gave chase. The suspects fired at the (pursuing) police cars, leading to a shootout,” the KZN spokesperson said. Colonel Richard Netshiunda.

The suspects’ vehicle stopped at the intersection of Henry Pennington Road and Ndwandwe Street.

“The one the suspects suffered fatal injuries during the shift while the team recovered two firearms with filed serial numbers.

“In addition, there were several rounds of ammunition and a police car was damaged. However, no officers were injured,” Netshiunda said.

In related news, News in brief reported that the police shot and killed a man after grabbing an officer’s gun and firing several shots inside the Alexandra Police Station.

The civilian’s actions after entering the prosecutor’s office on Thursday morning, November 14, left two officers injured.
