Four killed in a landslide in Central Java – Archipelago

our people died in a landslide late Tuesday in Peniron, Purworejo, Central Java, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported.

Abdul Muhari, a spokesman for the agency, said the remains of the deceased victims were found by a joint team led by the Cilacap Search and Rescue (SAR) agency after the landslide occurred on Tuesday evening.

The joint SAR team was forced to suspend search operations before resuming on Wednesday due to unstable ground conditions at the location, which posed the risk of further collapses following prolonged rain.

The victims were identified as Windah Wahyuningsih, 38, Susanti, 32, and two children, whose remains were handed over to their families.

Heavy equipment was deployed by the local government to help in the search operation amid the debris of the landslide.

BNPB reported that the landslide occurred after prolonged rain lashed the area on Tuesday afternoon, destabilizing the hilly terrain, causing it to collapse and bury the area below.
