CHICAGO — Felony charges have been filed against a Chicago man accused of injuring another person in a shooting on the city’s southwest side earlier this month.

James Harris, 44, of Chicago Lawn, was charged with one count of aggravated assault with a discharge of a firearm and one count of being an armed habitual offender, according to Chicago police.

Officers said the charges stem from Harris’ role in a shooting that allegedly took place near his Southwest Side home.

Authorities said Sunday, Nov. 3, that Harris allegedly opened fire on a 45-year-old man in the 6600 block of South Kedzie Avenue, leaving him wounded.

It is currently unclear what led to the shooting and authorities have not provided an update on the victim’s condition.

Police and the US Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force eventually caught up with Harris and he was taken into custody in the 3100 block of West Mann Drive.

Harris appeared in court Thursday for a detention hearing.
