Witness testimony begins in the trial of a Cobb County man charged with DUI in a fatal pedestrian crash

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Witness testimony began Wednesday in the trial of a man accused of driving under the influence in a crash that killed a teenager.

Jerome Cox, 68, is accused of hitting and killing 17-year-old Olivia Pugh at a crosswalk in a Kennesaw neighborhood last December.

On Wednesday, prosecutors called their first witness, one of the friends who was with Pugh the night she was hit. The group were going to see a Christmas light display on Ben King Road.

Police said at the time that Pugh was crossing the road in a marked crosswalk when the car hit her.

Cox’s defense maintains he is innocent.

Pugh was a student at Harrison High School, where she was an athlete, playing softball, flag football and basketball, along with running track.
