Lowell teenager charged in armed robbery of Billerica postal worker

BILLERICA — A 15-year-old Lowell boy has been charged with participating in the armed robbery of a postal worker in the Pages Court area earlier this month.

The incident involved the use of a handgun and led to an investigation to identify a second suspect involved in the crime, according to Billerica Police.

Police said around 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12 they responded to the robbery, where a preliminary investigation revealed two masked individuals approached a postal carrier and brandished a handgun.

Police said the mailman was struck in the face during the incident, but did not require transport to the hospital.

Following what police described as a “thorough investigation”, they executed an arrest warrant on Tuesday for a 15-year-old boy believed to be involved in the alleged murder. The teenager was taken into custody without incident and was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Lowell Juvenile Court.

He is charged with armed robbery while masked, assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, theft from a person and use of a firearm in a felony.

Due to his status as a minor, the outcome of the court proceedings will not be disclosed.
