Ending No. 1 gerrymandering would help protect Ohio’s children: Fred M. DeGrandis

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — With the recent killings of children and teachers in Georgia and other events in the past, we should be able to call on our Ohio Legislature to enact common sense solutions to gun violence. Most Ohioans are frustrated that action of this nature has not already taken place. The mass shooting in Georgia was the 45th time this year that students have been victims of gun violence, CNN reported. There have been at least five more since then.

Why hasn’t our Legislature acted, and how can it begin to implement effective solutions to protect school children and their teachers? The answer is to end the current system of gathering constituencies, which has resulted in a gerrymandered Legislature.
