Man injured in gun accident at Sig Sauer in Epping

(This story has been updated with new information.)

EPPING – A man was rushed to Elliot Hospital in Manchester after suffering an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday afternoon at Sig Sauer Academy shooting range, according to police.

The 1:30 p.m. incident was reported as an accidental discharge, Epping Police Capt. Richard Cote said. A single shot was accidentally fired by the wounded man, hitting his right leg, he said.

The man was in stable condition when he was transported, according to Cote. The man is not an official of the law.

“There is no danger to the public,” Cote said. “It was just an accidental shooting during training, which happens.”

Epping authorities were the only public safety agencies to respond, Cote said.

A Sig Sauer representative said the “careless discharge” occurred during handgun training provided by the company in a prepared statement Wednesday afternoon.

“A negligent discharge occurred today during gun 103 classes, the student suffered a self-inflicted and non-life threatening injury, he was treated at the scene by paramedics and then transported to a local hospital for treatment extra,” said Samantha. Piatt, Sig Sauer’s senior director of marketing and communications.

It was a similar incident in April 2017 at the Sig Sauer Academy when a man accidentally shot himself in the leg during range training and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
