Record Riot returns to Jersey City

The Jersey City Record Riot continues at the Grove Street PATH Plaza on Sunday, November 24th from 10:00am to 5:00pm

The event is free to attend and will feature over 50 tables of LPs and CDs.

Dory Previn documentary at Monty Hall

WFMU continues its movie nights at Monty Hall with a screening of the documentary “Dory Previn: On My Way to Where” on Sunday, December 1 at 4:00 p.m.

Dory Previn began her career as a lyricist for Hollywood musicals with songs for some of the greats, including Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and Dionne Warwick, earning three Academy Award nominations in the process. However, a tabloid scandal and public fallout would lead to her reemergence as a cult artist on the Laurel Canyon scene.

The screening will include a Q&A with the film’s co-director, Julia Greenberg; producer Amy Hobby and animator Emily Hubley. There will also be a set of Previn’s songs performed by Julia Greenberg, Joe Mcginty and Jeremy Chatzky.

Strangers stopping strangers at White Eagle Hall

Strangers Stopping Strangers returns to White Eagle Hall for the third time on Friday 6th December at 8pm.

The band is known for experimenting with the music of the Grateful Dead, adding elements of folk and bluegrass to the mix, along with vocal harmonies and improvisation with their instruments.

Jersey City Lounge Gets More Laughs With An Evening with Comedy, Vol. II, Friday, Dec. 6, 8:30-11:30 p.m.

The evening will feature a host of comedians as well as sounds by DJ Wavy Geez. A cash bar will also be offered.

GOMO’s 5th Annual Pre-Christmas Song

GOMO’s 5th Annual Pre-Christmas Singalong & Lounge takes place Saturday, December 7th at 4pm at SMUSH Gallery.

The children’s show will feature the vocal stylings of GOMO the Ghost, performances by DoubleM2000 on guitar and Laszlo Szep on piano. There will also be a special appearance by Bibi the Chihuahua. The show will be followed by an Open Mic and Lounge at 19.00

Holiday ballroom dance performance

Jersey City Ballroom will host the 2024 Holiday Gala Dance Showcase, an evening of dance to showcase its students and instructors, on Saturday, December 7th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at the Ukraine Community Center.

Performances include instructor-student pro-am ballroom and Latin dances and student-student and professional performances.

Group classes will be taught during intermission to give the audience a chance to dance.

An evening of the healing powers of music

NJCU’s Margaret Williams Theater will host An Evening of the Healing Powers of Music with Grammy-winning artists Carla Patullo, the Scorchio Quartet and special guests on Saturday, December 7 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The artists will perform music from their acclaimed album, ‘So She Howls’. Special guests include the Hispanic Nurses Association, Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority, Integrated Black Nurses Association and the NJCU Department of Nursing-Simulation.

The NJCU Multistyle String Ensemble will also perform a presentation of original works under the direction of Dr. David Eggar.

15th Annual Grace Holiday Concert

Grace Van Vorst Church will host its 15th annual Grace Celebration Concert on Sunday, December 8 at 2:00 p.m.

The afternoon performance will feature holiday music and carols from local musicians. Admission is a suggested donation of $5.

Community members are welcome to contribute to the wine and snack bar for the event.

Go 10 to 30 miles from the Hudson

FreeWalker’s is hosting its biggest walking event of the year with the Winter Hudson River Loop Walk on Sunday, December 8th from 8am to 7pm.

The Hudson River Loop Walk is a 30-mile day walk along the river that borders New York and New Jersey, starting at the Exchange Place PATH Station and continuing along the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway to the George Bridge Washington.

The walk then connects to the Hudson River Greenway and ends at the World Trade Center. A ferry will then return participants to Exchange Place.
