Three death sentences in Kushtia murder

KUSHTIA, Nov 20, 2024 (BSS) A court here today sentenced three persons to death for killing a woman and her son during a robbery in Doulatpur Upazila of the district in 2019.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Sohani Pushon pronounced the verdict on Abu Hanif Mollah, hailing from Joarderpara area, Ali Akber, a resident of Sonaikandi village, and Lal Chan Mondol.

The court also fined each convict Tk 50,000 failing which the convicts were to serve 1 year in prison.

According to the charge sheet dated November 17, 2019, the convicts strangled woman Sanowara and her son Raj to death during a robbery in Sonaikandi village.

Sanowara’s daughter filed a case with Doulatpur Thana, accusing a few unnamed people. The police pressed the charge sheet on December 27 of the year.

Taking testimony and evidence, the court passed the order in the presence of the convicts, Additional Public Prosecutor Khadimul Islam said.

In another section of the case, the court also sentenced them to life imprisonment and fined them Tk 50000 each.
