The fatal shooting appears to be an accident

HIGH POINT — The fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man in a northwest High Point neighborhood on Oct. 19 appears to be an accident, according to a police incident report and a 911 call from a witness to the place of the shooting.

Hasson Dwayne Williams of Greensboro died of a single gunshot wound to the head at his home in the 400 block of Ridgebrooke Drive. The High Point Police Department’s incident report indicates that multiple people inside the home said two people were wielding a Glock 9mm handgun when it fired.

In a recording of an emotional eight-minute call to 911, a woman who was in the home told an emergency dispatcher that Williams had been shot “by mistake.” The woman said Williams and another man were handling the gun when it discharged.

The distraught woman, crying as she spoke, told the dispatcher that Williams was barely breathing.

“Oh my God,” the woman wailed. “I have to call mom.”

In the background of the call were loud voices and chaotic noise. The emergency dispatcher tried to calm the woman down while an ambulance was on its way.

Police provided few details about the fatal shooting in a news release Thursday that said the case was turned over to the State Bureau of Investigation because a person at the scene of the shooting was related to a local elected official, though the official was not. appointed.

Enterprise on Thursday requested the incident report and 911 recording, which are public records. They were released on Friday.
