Tennessee woman accused of stealing more than $250,000 from 82-year-old woman

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has charged a Huntland woman after an investigation into the alleged financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult in Franklin County.

The TBI reports that agents began investigating allegations of theft by Betty Duncan, who operated a care facility in Franklin County, on July 9.

Agents learned that an 82-year-old woman who had been under Duncan’s care died in March – during the TBI’s investigation, it was revealed that a review of the woman’s financial accounts found discrepancies where large sums of money had were transferred from the victim’s account. in an account jointly held by Duncan.

During that investigation, the TBI said agents identified her as the person responsible for the theft.

“On November 18, the Franklin County Grand Jury handed up an indictment charging Betty Jean Duncan (9/20/1969) with one count of theft over $250,000 and one count of financial exploitation of an elderly adult or vulnerable,” TBI said.

Duncan was arrested on Tuesday, November 19. She was taken to the Franklin County Jail and booked on $500,000 bond.
