FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — A Fayette County man has been found guilty of a felony involving drug possession.

Raleigh County man pleads guilty to federal gun charge

According to a news release, Shannon D. Carte, 63, of Ansted, was found guilty on November 18, 2024 of felony possession of methamphetamine by an inmate in a correctional facility and felony possession of methamphetamine.

Carte faces one to five years in prison for the possession of a controlled substance by an inmate conviction and 90 days to six months in prison for the misdemeanor possession conviction.

While in a holding cell awaiting a Circuit Court hearing on February 9, 2024, law enforcement officers observed Carte acting suspiciously while in custody. The press release stated that after viewing surveillance video, law enforcement officers discovered that Carte was in possession of contraband while in custody.

Approximately seven grams of methamphetamine was found in Carte’s possession, including in his lunch bag, while he was in the holding cell.
