Milwaukee food truck stolen, community helps owner find it

MILWAUKEESurveillance video caught someone stealing a Milwaukee couple’s food truck just after midnight Friday, but the community helped them get it back.

E’s Blufox Eatery is Iesha Coleman’s pride and joy. She runs the deli with her fiance near 38th and Villard on the north side of town.

“He’s like a little kid to me,” she said. “We feed the homeless, the neighborhood kids who are hungry.”

Coleman said the business really took off over the summer. But it’s hard to cook without a kitchen, and that was her reality Friday afternoon when she pulled into the lot and her truck was gone.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I felt really violated because why would anyone feel so comfortable coming into someone else’s business and taking from them?”

The couple reached out to family and friends, such as community activist Javod Petty, who posted on social media to spread the word. It worked.

“I got it back within 30 minutes to an hour of posting,” Petty said.

The food truck was found next to an abandoned house, about 10 minutes from where it was stolen. To add insult to injury, the truck was found with a $33 parking citation slapped on the side β€” and the interior ransacked.

“We don’t have any lights or anything right now because we don’t have the generator,” Coleman said. “They ripped out the air fryer, the fryer, basically everything we had, all our supplies and inventory.”

Now, Coleman said she’s grateful to have him back β€” even if it means there’s still work to be done.

β€œIt gives me motivation to go further and go harder with my business,” she said.

FOX6 News reached out to the Milwaukee Police Department on Saturday for information about the initial theft, but did not hear back by deadline for this story. In the meantime, Coleman said he’ll need help getting the truck back up and running.
