Two women from St. Joseph arrested for felonies in Miami County

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police report a trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee near SR 16 and Union City Road in Denver, Ind. for a traffic violation around 9:41 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16

The driver of the Jeep was identified as Jennifer Lee Oblinger, 28, of South Bend, and the passenger as Ashley Nicole Beatty, 28, of Mishawaka.

The report states that while the officer was speaking with Oblinger, he noticed indications that criminal activity might be taking place and called for assistance.

An ISP K9 trooper and his K9 partner, Mack, arrived on scene.

The report states that the K9 was used to sniff the open air, which indicated the presence of narcotics inside the Jeep.

A search of the vehicle was then conducted, which led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, syringes and a controlled substance.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Beatty had an active felony warrant out of Elkhart County.

Authorities say the suspected methamphetamine and controlled substance will be sent to the ISP Laboratory for an accurate determination of the substance.

Oblinger and Beatty were arrested and taken to the Miami County Jail.

Oblinger was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony, possession of a hypodermic syringe, a level 6 felony, possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and operating without ever receiving a license, a misdemeanor.

Beatty was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony, possession of a syringe, a level 6 felony, false information, a misdemeanor, and the Elkhart County warrant.
