Man faces multiple charges after leading officers on chase, driving without a license

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WFIE) – A man faces multiple charges after Madisonville police say he led them on a chase Monday afternoon.

According to a police report, it all started when an officer saw 27-year-old Chasten Bax speeding on a motorcycle.

Police say when they activated their emergency lights to pull Bax over, he continued to drive.

During the pursuit, officers say Bax could be seen passing vehicles in a no passing zone, going 60 mph in a 35 mph zone and even ignoring a stop sign.

A release says that at some point, police lost sight of Bax, but provided a description of his clothing and motorcycle, along with where he was last seen.

We’re told a detective traveling on E. Arch Street reported seeing the driver when he almost hit him head-on.

Police say Bax continued to drive into the Hopkins County Fairgrounds, where he eventually abandoned his motorcycle, running on foot.

The Madisonville Police Department says Bax was eventually found hiding under leaves in a wooded area.

According to officials, a pill bottle containing marijuana, a marijuana grinder and a pipe were found in Bax’s possessions.

Police say Bax explained he ran because he’s a felon and wasn’t sure about Kentucky’s marijuana laws since he’s not from there. He also told officers that he did not want the motorcycle impounded because it belonged to his boss.

Bax was then arrested and taken to the Hopkins County Jail, where he faces the following charges:

  • Fleeing or eluding the police
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • No license plates
  • Non-Owner Operator Failure
