Very underweight seal pup rescued in Guernsey

The chick, which the team named California Girl, is the second rescued by the GSPCA this season.

Mr George said the first, rescued in October and named Roar, was “doing very well”.

GSPCA manager Steve Byrne said the charity was looking at options as it planned to demolish its current seal facilities to make way for a new centre.

He said the UK’s RSPCA was unable to help and a pool area would be needed where the seal pups could gain weight and strength in preparation for their return to the wild.

He said: “As we have our favorite builders that we are now in negotiations with, we are hoping that Roar and California Girl will have a quick turnaround ahead of the new build – but we are reaching out to anyone who thinks they can certainly help. this and the rehabilitation of next year’s pup.

“Seal pup season is upon us again and we have lots of details online about what to do if you see a seal in distress, but the easiest way is to give us a call.”
