I had to PICK 40 bee stings out of my child’s skin after he was attacked by a huge swarm – it was like a horror movie

A horrified mother was forced to suck 40 bee stings from her baby’s skin after he was attacked by a huge swarm – reminiscent of a horror film.

Jo Evans was at her local rugby club with friends and family when her four-year-old son Brody-Jac was suddenly invaded by a colony of bees.

She feared that her son might suffer the same fate as her Macaulay Culkin’s character in the 90s film My Girl after being stung by a swarm of bees, prompting her to suck 40 stings to save him.

The 39-year-old social worker from Swansea she was sitting with friends on the side of the field, “a stone’s throw” from where her two children and other children were playing on a bench in September.

Unbeknownst to her, the children had accidentally disturbed a hive of bees while throwing rocks into a stream – making the winged insects worse.

The mother-of-two was horrified when she heard her eight-year-old son Blake screaming and turned around to see a swarm of 50-year-olds. the bees surrounding her youngest, Brody-Jac.

Jo’s husband – 36-year-old social worker Jason Evans – ran to save little Brody-Jac, suffering several bee stings himself.

The horrified mother then proceeded to suck the bee stings from her child’s body after he was stung dozens of times on his arms, back and head.

For fear their son might enter anaphylactic shock at any point, the parents rushed Brody-Jac to the hospital where, thankfully, he made a full recovery.

Jo said: “The children were throwing stones in a stream and obviously unknowingly aggravated this hive. They didn’t know it was there.

“The older children were obviously more aware of the situation and ran to alert us. I was just a stone’s throw away.

“I could hear my oldest screaming ‘I’ve been stabbed in the throat!’ When I turned my head, I saw the little one standing in the middle with all the bees surrounding him. There were about 50 of them.

The first aid video shows how to treat a bee sting

“It immediately made me think of My Girl. One of the characters is allergic to bees and died instantly. It was like reliving that movie. I thought this was it.

“I didn’t know if Brody-Jac was allergic to them or not at the time. So I was really thinking the worst.

“My husband ran and got the little one out of there right away and he was covered in bees.”

Jo then proceeded to use her mouth to suck the dozens of bee stings from her little one’s body before rushing him to hospital.

She added: “I had already removed my oldest stinger and started sucking the stingers out of Brody.

“I don’t even know if my mother instinct kicked in or if I went into survival mode.

“They were all over his hands, arms, stomach, back and head. The ones in his head I could only pick out with my fingernails.

“I just wanted to take away his pain. There was another child who had 11 stings.

“His face was swollen and he had hives on his skin. Because she was crying, I knew she could breathe.

“We took him to the hospital and they just told us to keep an eye on them and make sure they don’t get infected.

“They told me to think twice about sucking the stings.

“The pain must have been excruciating for him. He had over 40 stitches and had a coat. Obviously, the bees went through his clothes.

“I don’t want anyone else to go through what we did that day. If your child is stung and there are signs of anaphylactic shock, you need to call 999.”

It comes after a man has suffered more organ failure and escaped death after being stung by a giant bee.

And a little child was taken to hospital in agony after being stung 18 times by a colony of angry bees.

What to do if wasps swarm and how to treat stings

The best thing to do if you’re swarmed by wasps is to run as fast as you can until you get to shelter, according to Pest Expert.

This could be a building or a vehicle, but it’s anywhere you can escape the creatures.

Pest experts advise against jumping into the water, as the wily creatures may wait for you to emerge before launching another attack.

They say if you have more than one layer, pull the top over your head to protect your face.

If you are stung by a wasp, it is important to remove it as soon as possible.

The sting can be scraped off the skin using the edge of a credit card, or if you don’t have one handy, you can use your fingernails.

You should never use your fingers or tweezers as this can cause the venom to spread.

After removing the sting, you should:

  • Wash the affected area with soap and water
  • Apply ice or a cold compress for up to 10 minutes to reduce swelling
  • Avoid scratching the area to reduce the risk of infection
  • Do not apply home remedies such as vinegar or baking soda as they are unlikely to help.

Some people are allergic to wasp stings and can cause them to go into anaphylactic shock, which requires urgent medical treatment.

Symptoms of anaphylaxis include:

  • Severe swelling
  • Hives or itching
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Stomach cramps
  • A sudden drop in blood pressure
