An Upper Peninsula man will stand trial for allegedly sexually assaulting young people

A Dickinson County man accused of sexually assaulting two young men is facing trial for the alleged assaults.

Trentin McWilliams, 23, was ordered to stand trial Friday for the alleged assaults in 2018 and 2022 in the 41st Circuit Court of Dickinson County, the Michigan Attorney General’s Department announced in a news release.

A pretrial date has not yet been set, according to the release.

His attorney, Samuel Bennett, did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

US Marshals Service extradited McWilliams, of Norway and recently of California, in Dickinson County in September. He was arraigned on September 20 for seven offences.

The Michigan Attorney General’s Department charged him in July with assault on a child for immoral purposes and criminal sexual conduct against or related to a child under 13, according to online court records.

McWilliams allegedly sexually assaulted the child at a relative’s home in 2018.

The Dickinson County Prosecutor’s Office also charged him with five other counts in February for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in a car in October 2022, officials said.

Officials extradited McWilliams with funding from Operation Survivor Justice. OSJ is a partnership between the state Department of the Attorney General, local county prosecutors and the US Marshals Service to locate and return individuals in Michigan with sexual assault warrants.

“Operation Survivor Justice is already having a profound impact in Michigan and the nation,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a statement. “Through our partnership with the US Marshals Service, we have successfully ensured that a number of people accused of sexual assault face justice in court.”

It is the latest development in a series of unrelated criminal sexual conduct cases across the state.

A union representative accused of sexually assaulting a worker at a Ford plant in Sterling Heights was put on trial Wednesday.

A man from western Michigan was too convict for sexually exploiting a girl as part of an online child pornography ring, officials announced Nov. 7.
