Adilabad/Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A male tiger, popularly known as Johnnyfrom Maharashtra, who went on quite a journey in search of a female companion, is likely to easily realize his dream of meeting his mate without facing much competition from other male tigers in the region.

“The male tiger is chasing a female tiger that lives in the Kerameri forests. The two tigers are likely to meet in the forests of Kerameri Mandal, located on the borders of the two states. The habitat is conducive for tiger mating,” Adilabad District Forest Officer Prashant B Patil told “Telangana Today”.

Johnny apparently tried to approach the female tiger but returned to the forests of Narnoor Mandal for unknown reasons. It killed cattle in Chorgaon village of Narnoor Mandal on Monday. He was seen while crossing a road in Laltekdi village of Utnoor Mandal late on Sunday night. He tried to kill cattle in Rajulaguda and Chanduri villages of Utnoor Mandal.

Originally belonging to the Painganga Wildlife Sanctuary, spread across both Nanded and Yavatmal districts of neighboring Maharashtra, Johnny had made his way to Boath in Adilabad in the third week of October.

It then wandered into the forests of Kuntala, Sarangapur and Mamada mandals before stepping into the forests of Utnoor, triggering panic among the locals. So far it has traveled about 350 km.

According to forest officials, the female tiger has been living in the forests of Kerameri Mandal for two months. She too killed cattle in the forests of Kerameri on Monday.

The cow belonged to Sidam Kannirao of Sungapur village in Jainoor mandal. The tiger is taught to move towards the borders of Maharashtra and Telangana.

Meanwhile, a male migrant tiger named S-12 from the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Chandrapur in Maharashtra has moved to the forests of Tiryani Mandal in the last few days.

It recently entered the forests at Kasipet in Mancherial. However, the tracks of the tiger could not be recorded as it was roaming in the hilly areas of the region. Officials said S12, however, did not pose a challenge to Johnny’s chances of meeting the female tiger.

Officials said the forests of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district are inhabited by about 10 tigers. At least two of them were women. Migrating male tigers can effortlessly meet tigers and feed families in the forests of the region. A tigress named S-13 gave birth to three cubs in Kaghaznagar forest division in 2022.
