Family and friends are mourning the victim of a fatal crash in north Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Family and friends are mourning the loss of a 22-year-old Springfield woman who died in a crash late last week.

Jayde Campbell’s life ended near the intersection of Kellett Avenue and Talmage Street on November 14. She and her boyfriend were driving through the intersection when police said a juvenile driving south on Kellett ran a stop sign and crashed into them.

Her boyfriend and the two in the Buick were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“She said I love you, Allie Cat. See you later,” said Alysen Hughes, who never thought I love you would be the last words she would hear from her good friend.

“He stood up and asked: From which side were we hit? And the neighbor, the whole neighborhood, came out and was very, very helpful, and they were trying to be there for him and they were yelling at him on the passenger side, you got hit on the passenger side,” Hughes said, as she talks about the brother they who was the driver.

Jayde sat on the passenger side. Family members say her boyfriend rushed to pull her out, but she was trapped and he was unable to free her.

“She was still trying to fight for her life and my little brother was trying to fight for her.”

His family members say he has now been discharged from the hospital.

Campbell’s family said in a statement to KY3: “Her brother was on his way home from the Marines and was going to surprise the family that he would be home for the holidays this year. Instead, he comes home to mourn the needless loss of his sister. Her boyfriend ‘Nikki’ lost his high school sweetheart, the love of his life.”

At this time, the juvenile justice system told KY3, they have not received any documents regarding this case. However, the SPD is investigating. The Springfield Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact them at 417-864-1810 or the tip line at 417-869-TIPS.
