Rowan County has again been recognized both locally and nationally for its employee wellness initiatives.

“We continue to receive recognition for innovation in employee health and wellness while remaining fiscally conservative,” said Board of Commissioners Chairman Greg Edds. “We are fortunate to have some of the brightest human resources professionals in the country under the leadership of Assistant County Manager Kelly Natoli.”

The county was named a Top 5 Healthiest Employer in Greater Charlotte by the Charlotte Business Journal in the 500-999 employee category. This program was launched by the Charlotte Business Journal in 2009 to celebrate companies that put their people first by investing in the health of their employees.

This is the fifth time the county has been recognized by the Charlotte Business Journal for making strides in worker wellness. This year, the county ranked fourth, ahead of Cleveland County Government, City of Gastonia and Truliant Federal Credit Union.

Rowan County was also recognized in the 2024 Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America by Springbuk, an awards program created to honor people-first organizations that prioritize the well-being of their employee population. This is the second time Rowan County has been recognized by Springbuk for our commitment to workplace wellbeing. Springbuk is a health information software platform that administers the nationwide awards program to honor the nation’s most dedicated employers in improving workplace health and wellness programs.

This year, the county ranked 99th. Award winners included nationally recognized companies such as bp North America, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, CVS Health, American Express and NASCAR.

We are very proud of the Rowan County Board of Health and the Department of Human Resources for their commitment to helping employees develop healthy physical habits, as well as their support for employees to communicate openly about mental health,” said the deputy county manager and the director of human resources. Kelly Natoli said. “Rowan has a proactive, employee-supporting board of trustees that has supported numerous initiatives over the past decade, including a diabetes management program, a medical weight loss program, biometric screening incentives, reduced premiums for participating in the wellness program, Fitbits, a fitness app with monthly incentives, mobile mammograms, flu shot clinics, a free on-site nurse and an employee assistance program with enhanced services to support mental wellness.”
