Royal Mail suspends deliveries to residents of East Kilbride tower block after postman threatens

Royal Mail has suspended deliveries to residents of a tower block in East Kilbride to “ensure the safety” of postal workers.

The postal service has confirmed that it has currently applied a delivery exemption to all 114 flats in Clyde Tower due to a “serious incident of abuse”.

After threats to “use a dog” were made to a postman in May, the person involved and his floor in the tower were exempted from delivery.

However, the delivery block was expanded in October to the entire building after a new employee was chased throughout the building and threatened again with the use of a dog.

The exemption will continue to be assessed.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We take the welfare of our posts very seriously and will take steps where necessary to ensure their safety.

“We will continue to evaluate the current exemption, however, our priority is for stations to be able to carry out their duties without fear of violence.”
