Treasure Coast Children’s Center Endangered by Funding Cuts

Why do we depend on federal funding to care for sexually and physically abused children in our community? Why don’t we take care of our children? Advocacy Center for Children receives no funding from our counties or municipalities.

Act now. Contact your Commissioners county residents, county administrators and legislators to fund the Children’s Advocacy Center.

Why? The GFNF4kids Children’s Advocacy Center provides all the necessary resources for sexually and physically abused children in St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin and Okeechobee counties. Before CAC opened, children had to go to six or more locations to tell their stories and receive the necessary resources. Thus, children were further traumatized, often lost in the system, and their perpetrators were not prosecuted.

Our CAC, among others, has received massive funding cuts from the Federal Crime Victims Act over the past two years, which previously funded CACs. Our CAC has, through no fault of our own, run a $300,000 deficit over the past two years. Research shows that communities with CACs save the community $1,000 or more per child abuse case.

Since opening in 2022, our CAC has served over 1,200 sexually and physically abused children. In one case, the mother received 21 life sentences plus 800 years. If you were lucky enough to grow up in a loving family, you have no idea the amount of child abuse, the severity of the abuse, or the depravity of the abuse.

Thanks to State Senator Gayle Harrell and Representative Dana Trabulsy, we received $1.3 million to create the CAC in July 2022. Unfortunately, we were one of only two judicial circuits in Florida without a CAC. Most Florida CACs have been around for 20 to 30 years.

The columns also express her feelings about the election

I want to congratulate the two columnists whose articles you ran the other day ― Nate Monroe and Ray Marcanowhich so eloquently expressed the thoughts and feelings I have had for a long time.

I believe that history will not look favorably on the days and years to come.

Attorney General’s nod: Republican House members owe it to Trump

I was watching a few news stations and the main focus was on Donald Trump’s picks for his cabinet and other positions.

Most of the conversation was about the congressman, or former congressman, I guess, from Florida being appointed attorney general. They were not free. How could Trump appoint such a person as AG etc.?

I was surprised that no one at CNN, NBC or FOX pointed out, or even realized, that Trump had just done the Republican House a tremendous favor. He just took a thorn in his side out of the house. Congressman resigned so he could prepare for Senate interviews for AG.

This is a less reactionary and less Republican majority issue. Now he owes her.

Harris’ debt-ridden campaign shows how she ran the nation

wow Kamala Harris had more than a billion dollars and he is now over $20 million in debt and is reaching for more.

Much of the billion went to rich paying celebrities. Some reports indicate one was Oprah Winfrey, whose company took more than a million dollars for her to “appear.”

Many of those $5 and $10 donors who have trouble feeding their families spent money to pay the rich and famous to appear on Kamala’s behalf. Let’s name the names and amounts the celebrities were paid to pose for Harris. It’s unbelievable.

Thank God he won’t touch our treasury. Joe Biden has done enough damage. Not more. These are the people who never ran a successful business, but just lived their lives off the taxpayers.

We should “give” our talents to our country, not “take” from it.

(Editor’s note: Other later reports said Winfrey denied receiving an appearance fee.)

Column Jacques division sows; I can’t compare him to Trump, Harris

I was insulted by Ingrid Jacques’ recent column on the elections. Is she trying to deflect the bad behavior of our future president to blame for dividing our country?

Her implication that the Democratic Party will not “accept the results of this election and deal with Trump as president” is baseless. Joe Biden has already invited Trump to the White House, and Kamala Harris has called on the president-elect to accept the election and promised a smooth transition.

Trump never acknowledged his loss in the 2020 election, did not attend the inauguration, and caused a riot in our Capitol on January 6, 2021. Jacques mentions Hillary Clinton, saying she “raised the specter of the 2016 election as ” illegitimate,” making her look like a sore loser.” Who looked more like a loser than Trump when he lost to Biden?

Jacques is really asking Harris and the rest of my party to stop pushing the divide and help the progressives move on. Ever heard Trump speak? Trump’s inventions are putting people’s lives at risk, including his own. Why is it okay for Trump to continually slander and lie and his party not tell him to stop his rhetoric so we can all live in harmony in this already great United States?

Finally, here’s something for everyone to think about. We know Trump doesn’t follow the law and no one seems to be keeping him in check. Harris would follow the law, so our judicial and legislative arms could have scrutinized her actions. I hope not too much damage is done in Trump’s final term.

Trump’s victory shows Americans what they are not

Apparently the Democrats lost the presidential election because they didn’t move to the center.

Nonsense: Donald Trump and Republican success was largely achieved by moving to the far right: anti-women, anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, anti-gay, anti-real Christian values. Even calling veterans losers has proven successful.

No wonder Trump admires and has followed a playbook similar to that of Adolf Hitler. He realized what Americans are at their core. Christianity has hardly made a dent in America.

Taliban happy Harris wasn’t elected so…

After the election, the Taliban congratulated the American people for “not electing a woman to be their leader.”

Think about it. The most oppressive regime on the planet approves of our president-elect.

Good job, America.Alyce Strong, Fort Pierce

Don’t smear college-age kids with election talk

It seems that there are some students who are reacting to the new president-elect with deep sadness.

One of the Ivy League colleges offered students a day off from their studies. He gave Legos, coloring books, milk and cookies to their students who are so blue because they didn’t vote for the new president.

As a parent, I understand that our children are basically on loan to us. Our job is to prepare them for the future so that they can become independent. If I were currently paying those high taxes for my kids, I would want my money back.

Do we want our college-aged children to be treated like toddlers? We need to prepare them for the real world.

My hope for the holiday season is that we can all find a grown-up way to discuss our differences.

There are many other pleasant topics to talk about around the Thanksgiving and holiday tables.

One thing I think we can all agree on is that we want to feel safe in our homeland.

Our new president-elect is known for his approach to peace through strength. Our opponents fear him. And that’s a good thing. Some of those adversaries are already turning to him for ceasefires in these endless wars.

Isn’t that a win-win for all of us Americans?

After all, we all bleed red, white and blue.
