Three other women, two aged 17 and one aged 19, who were arrested on suspicion of car theft, have been released on bail, they added.

West Yorkshire Police said a pursuit was authorized after the driver of the Toyota failed to stop for officers on the M621 as the car was being driven onto the M62 at Birstall.

The Toyota was reported stolen from New York Street in Leeds on Friday, officers said.

According to the West Yorkshire Police spokesman, the Independent Police Conduct Office was notified, as was standard procedure for an incident of this nature.

Anyone who saw what happened or had information about the incident was urged to contact police.
