12-year-old charged with attempted murder after shooting leaves teenager injured

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott has announced the arrest of a 12-year-old boy in connection with a November 11 shooting and an armed robbery in March.

Investigators said this arrest comes after he responded to a shooting on Ranch Road around 7:00pm on November 11th.

When authorities arrived, they found a 14-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds. That 14-year-old was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

Investigators determined it started with an argument that allegedly led to the 12-year-old pulling out a gun and shooting, ultimately hitting the victim. The suspect fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, deputies say.

On Nov. 15, the 12-year-old turned himself in to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

The young man faces several charges, including attempted murder, possession of a weapon by an under-18 and possession of a weapon during a crime of violence.

During the investigation, officials also determined the suspect was involved in an armed robbery near East Boundary Road in March and is also charged with armed robbery in connection with that incident.

He has now been referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
