Dog returns to attacked site years later – owner realizes he ‘Still remembers’

A woman has told the emotional moment her dog stopped exactly where her elderly pup was attacked two years earlier.

Claudia Bax, 47, lives in Belgium with the two Italian greyhoundsAlauda, 18, and Adeline, 6, and as she told Newsweek: “My girls mean a lot to me.”

“Alauda was born in my house 18 years ago and has never left my side,” she said.

“I am chronically ill and have had some difficult times medically and she has been my anchor. Always by my side and even visited me in the hospital. I can’t explain how much she means to me because her presence has been my comfort for so long. .”

After adopting rescue Adeline five years ago, the two dogs “bonded quickly” and the trio made the perfect family. But in 2022, while on a walk in the countryside, the elderly cub Alauda was viciously attacked.

The then 16-year-old dog was kept on a leash, but it was bitten by a dog who “ran out of an unfenced yard,” breaking three of Alauda’s ribs and severing his groin and leg. She miraculously survived, but it was a difficult road to recovery, with long vet stays, surgeries and organ failure leading to blindness.

And while the younger dog Adeline was not attacked, she “saw it all happen and barked her head off”. Since then, Adeline has had a “major setback” with reactivity training. As Bax described it: “When dogs approach, she goes into major protective mode. Strong”.

Now Bax has revealed the lasting impact the incident has had on Adelina in an emotional post to her Instagram page @jewel_iggies. Shared in August, with more than 150,000 views, it shows Adeline on a country lane, standing still and looking down a side road before looking protectively at her owner.

Bax explained to him Newsweek it took her almost two years to get back on that path and she still feels panicked. And when they passed her and she saw her dog “stop and then look at me, hit me again.”

“I’m not sure if it was her memory, but she looked down the road and then checked with me, she actually caught me,” she said.

“I got a little emotional. I didn’t walk the real path, but close to it… it still gave me a sense of accomplishment, in the healing step. This is a trauma that the three of us still carry.”

Instagram users were equally moved, with one commenter praising the “baby steps”, calling the woman and her dog “so brave”.

“It makes me feel so bad to know this happened to her,” said another, adding: “What a superstar she really is.”

“Still heartbroken that this happened,” one fan wrote.
