A cold weekend before a warmer work week

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – After a cold front overnight, temperatures in eastern Kentucky have climbed into the 50s and 60s. Rain has fallen in the watch area over the past 24 hours. This brought the monthly total to 0.18″, which is still significantly below the monthly average and on pace to be the driest October on record.

HEADLINES:

  • Cool end to the weekend
  • The Roller Coaster temperatures continue
  • A rainy Halloween?

DISCUSSION:

Sunday could be a near-average day for temperatures with clear skies in the forecast. Temperatures from Monday to Wednesday will be nearly ten degrees above average before a front approaches on Thursday. In the last 24 hours, much needed rains have fallen across the area. However, rainfall totals are still nearly two and a half inches below the October average. A last chance of rain is expected by the end of the month on Thursday. The rain is expected to continue into Friday afternoon, giving eastern Kentucky a quick start to the November rains.

Looking ahead:

The first week and a half of November will be above average for temperatures, and the rest of the month looks to be above average. The good news is the forecasted increase in precipitation chances. This October will probably be the driest on record, but a wet start to November could help the recovery.
