Kottayam: A notorious robber, who is a member of Tamil Nadu’s Kuruva robbery gang, has been arrested by Alappuzha Police Sunday. According to Alappuzha DSP Mr. Madhu Babu, the arrested person is Santhosh, a native of Kamakshipuram in TN. There are about 30 cases against his name, eight of which are registered in different police stations in Kerala.
The special investigation team formed in Alappuzha following a suspected Kuruva robbery in the district went to Ernakulam on Saturday to nab the thief. According to the police, the move was based on a tip-off from Kamakshipuram following a rift in the gangs of thieves. The gang members lived under the Kundannoor bridge. When police caught the robber, the women in their gang, many carrying children, protested and rescued the arrested, police said. Santhosh was arrested after a four-hour search with the help of the Fire and Rescue Services dive team.
The accused was identified from CCTV footage of a recent robbery at Mannanchery in Alappuzha. “The robbers of this gang hide their faces and wear gloves during the act. They do not use mobile phones,” the DSP said. Santhosh was identified using the tattoo on his chest and his mannerisms. Another person who was with him could not be identified.
