Police found the gun report at Germantown High School not credible

This story has been updated to add new information.

A non-credible report of a person with a gun prompted a 911 call to Germantown High School on Friday.

Several social media posts described a large police presence at Germantown High School Friday night, and many said they had been evacuated from the school.

Germantown Police Chief Mike Snow said no shots were fired and no weapons were found at the scene, but a separate medical event took place.

The Germantown School District said in a statement that police and the Washington County Sheriff swept the entire building and secured employees who took shelter after the 911 call. Authorities found the report not credible.

One person was taken to hospital with a medical condition due to the stress of the situation.

Katie P., who preferred to share only the first initial of her last name for privacy reasons, said her child’s Rocket Aquatic Swim Team coach “frantically told us to run” around 6:30 p.m.

“We ran for our lives out the side door where we saw many officers near another entry point with their rifles,” Katie said.

While she’s still not sure what happened, Katie said she could tell from the coach’s and parents’ tone of voice and facial expressions that “it was more than a drill.”

Katie said the group of 6- to 13-year-old swimmers doesn’t normally practice at the high school, but Friday night was a “special, fun” Halloween-themed practice and many parents stayed to watch the kids.

A boys’ volleyball match was also scheduled for Friday evening, according to the Germantown High School online calendar.
