The 84-year-old is in a serious but stable condition after suffering serious head injuries and is due to undergo surgery this evening.

Police say the unknown woman approached the elderly woman in a parking lot in Midland, knocking her to the ground, then leaving the area.

Detectives have spent today combing CCTV as they try to understand what led to this shocking incident.

The police released an image of the alleged attacker.

She is described as being 160cm tall, with a medium build, short brown hair and brown eyes.

She was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts.
